Ritual Pieces
OBJECTS
My work consists of living with awareness, seeking ways to expand the mind and be present in every action. It is a constant intention that I sometimes achieve, and at many other times, I do not. That is why, in my journey, I seek and have sought activities that allow me to exercise this awareness in a concrete way. Like any habit we want to develop, we start with more visible actions—those that allow us to perceive the difference—and gradually we tend toward more subtle forms. Creating rituals helps me transform actions that might be considered "unnecessary" into moments that require full attention, or to perform everyday tasks in a special way, different from the usual. These rituals are a practice to keep me in the present, where the focus is on the gesture, on the "how," and on the way of doing things. In my Zenga practice, this intention is evident; it is the very essence of all Zen arts: awakening to life through the gestures required to execute them. The pieces I create—incense burners, bowls for flowers, candle holders, pourers—are infused with this intention. They are tools for awakening and an invitation to share that awareness in the everyday.
