Beginnings: Charcoals and Faces

PAINTING

In this stage, my search focused on capturing what defines an emotion through gazes, gestures, and movements. I chose charcoal and ink for their frankness and spontaneity, with no room for corrections. These works were born from stimuli such as music, cinema, literature, martial arts, and nature. The charcoals selected here are linked to a trip to Central America, where tribal percussion infused my strokes with its energy. The film "Latcho Drom," which I also accessed during that time, deepened my interest in bodily expression, inspiring study sketches of dances from various cultures that enriched future works. The faces—painted on wallpaper that eventually turned yellow—aim to express not only emotions but the essence in the gesture. They were created over a few nights as part of an intense inner search that continues to evolve.
