Scent of Kintsug
PROJECTS
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramic pieces. Its essence lies in accepting the cracks as part of the object's history, restoring them with patience and time, and making them visible through the use of gold powder. "Aroma of Kintsugi" was born from an accident: several ceramic pieces unexpectedly exploded in the kiln during an experimental phase. What I initially experienced as a failure and frustration over the losses transformed into an opportunity. I decided to join the pieces in a second firing using the same glaze, not to recreate what I had attempted to do, but to give life to what the piece was already becoming. This new perspective allowed me to discover unexpected forms and beauties, understanding that shattering was not disintegration, but rather a possibility for recreation. This process reminded me once again that concepts reside within us, and it is up to us how we propose and create beauty. This project invites us to question not only that which we perceive as broken but also our way of seeing and relating to what surrounds us, offering a new possibility to understand, accept, inhabit, and transform experiences that once seemed negative.
